State Rep. Dave Hickernell says an e-mail being circulated on the internet announcing a ban on cell phone use by Pennsylvania drivers is inaccurate.
“My office has received a copy of the e-mail,” said Hickernell. “It states that the General Assembly has passed a cell phone ban and that it will take effect on November 10, 2007.
“No legislative action banning the use of cell phones by drivers has occurred.”
The confusion may have been caused by the introduction last month of House Bill 1827, which would prohibit vehicle operators from using handheld mobile telephones.
“This bill has not received any votes as of today and currently remains in the House Transportation Committee,” Hickernell added. “The bill is scheduled to be discussed as a part of a distracted driving public hearing being held by the House Transportation Committee.”
